African Coffee
What should you expect from African coffees? What makes them unique?
Coffee from African countries tends to be more fruity, higher acidity coffee, which is not what most people associate coffee with! Higher altitudes, soil composition are all key components of creating the unique flavour profiles from African coffees.
Some other unique characteristics to expect from African coffees that you may hear are "floral". Floral is as it sounds, often a tea like flavour; such as earl grey tea, chamomile or jasmine are quite common tasting notes given to describe some notes in coffees! Washed coffees often will have more "floral" characteristics, with cleaner tasting notes, a great example would be coffees from the region Yirgacheffe, in Ethiopia, which will often have very unique, tea like flavours to it.
Roasting East African coffees on the lighter side is often done to highlight these unique flavours and preserve the unique characteristics of the coffee from its' country of origin. These lighter roasts would be brewed really well as black, filter style coffees, or sometimes used in espresso blends as a small component in the blend to add a unique addition to the flavour profile of the coffee blend.

Sourcing
We partner with coffee importers we share our values in ethical sourcing and providing coffee with a sustainable future for producers and consumers. Our main importing partners are Covoya, Falcon, Sucafina, Primavera, Omwani and occasionally other importers who provide detailed levels of transparency on their coffee offerings. By partnering with coffee importers that have long standing relationships with small scale coffee producers, this provides financial and logistical support to small-scale coffee farmers. Our aim as a coffee roaster is to find out how we can source coffee that has the greatest benefit for the producers, with our goal in the future to develop more direct trading relationships where these merit a greater outcome for the coffee producers!
Ethical Coffee With A Cause
At Brew Crew, we want to make it as easy for coffee drinkers to understand how they are making a difference through coffee, just by enjoying high quality, freshly roasted specialty coffee! As a social enterprise, we commit 10% of our retail sales to support social and environmental projects in the regions we source our coffee from, showing you what every pound does, in meaningful numbers.
How Our Projects Make A Difference
Committing portions of all our coffee sales is our way of ensuring we pass back some of the value added at the end of supply chain in coffee. Partnering with our importers and award winning NGO's means we can ensure we are contributing to meaningful causes, that will pave a more sustainable future for the coffee industry.
