What is our project supporting?
Small scale farmers often operate small farming operations, often just a few hectares. Coffee fruit takes 3 - 4 years to bare fruit from seedlings being planted. For most small scale farmers, replacing old, less productive trees with young, immature coffee trees is too costly to them in the immediate future to invest in better, more proudctive future crops.
Over years, a small crop, becomes smaller, a year of low coffee prices becomes more impactful when harvesting less coffee fruit from older, less productive trees. Providing well timed rejuvenation of coffee trees to farmers help take this financial burden off them.
Brew Crew seedling project
In partnership with Omwani, one of our importers, and Agri Evolve, we're putting all of our project funds into seedling nurseries for Ugandan farmers. Agri Evolve is on the ground in Uganda helping to deliver the project and making sure farmers have a say in what will genuinely improve their lives.
This is a new initiative for 2026, and we've budgeted for it and assessed the impact we expect it to have. The more coffee we roast, the more we can do beyond this project to improve the prospects of coffee and of the people who work so hard to produce it.
Trips To Origin
Having visited Rwanda in May 2026, I saw first hand how coffee cooperatives operated in Rwanda with export partners providing support. Delivering seedlings from coffee nursery's to neighbouring farmers helps provide a sustainable place for coffee, giving access to farmers to help them plant for a future in coffee.
